About

Be among the first to experience Bemis’s new exhibitions for the Summer season: Miatta Kawinzi: An Alphabet of Unfolding and MOTHER TIME: Measuring ourselves within the landscape.

Who's playing

This opening reception centers on Miatta Kawinzi: An Alphabet of Unfolding, a multi-gallery exhibition by Kenyan-Liberian-American artist, writer, and educator Miatta Kawinzi, and MOTHER TIME: Measuring ourselves within the landscape, featuring photographers Rachel Cox and Rose Marie Cromwell. Bemis Center also notes a music mix by Kobrakyle as part of the reception.

What to expect

At Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, the reception offers a first look at the center’s new Summer season exhibitions with the exhibiting artists in attendance. Kawinzi’s exhibition explores hybridity, memory, sustenance, cultural lineage, ecological interconnection, and adaptation through mixed-media works, sculpture, video, and text; MOTHER TIME brings Cox and Cromwell into dialogue around closeness, intimacy, public and private experience, memory, care, and the landscapes of the United States.

Why go

Go for a concentrated introduction to Bemis Center’s Summer exhibitions and the artists shaping them. The Summer 2026 Exhibitions Opening Reception is especially suited to visitors interested in contemporary art that connects identity, place, family, memory, and landscape across multiple media.
